CAITLIN SAYLOR STEPHENS is a Brooklyn-based playwright and performer. Her plays include: Black Escalade, Joley, The Unofficial Race Time of A. Pineda, From The Basement of My Heart, Two Men Missing In The Hudson River, and When We Went Electronic.
She is the recipient of a 2015-16 Audrey Residency at New Georges with director Portia Krieger and is a member of New Georges The Jam, a developmental theater lab for emerging female playwrights and directors.
She has held residencies at Bennington College with Primary Stages (2016), Vermont Studio Center (2016), New Georges (2015-16), Space on Ryder Farm (2011 + 2012) and The Orchard Project (2011). She holds a two-time honorable mention on The Kilroy’s List for her plays Two Men Missing In The Hudson River and When We Went Electronic and was nominated by New Georges for the 2014 NNPN Showcase. In 2015 Caitlin received The Romulus Linney Scholarship at Sewanee Writer’s Conference.
Her plays have been developed at: New York Theater Workshop, New Georges, The Lark, Skeleton Rep, Newvember Play Festival, The Flea Theater, Do It Live Productions (Bay Area), The Amoralists, Dixon Place, and Token Collective. She has been a finalist for the following honors: The Lila Acheson Wallace Fellowship at Juilliard, The Jerome Fellowship, The Boris Segal/Drama League Fellowship at Williamstown Theater Festival for The Front with Jess Chayes, P73 Fellowship, Bushwick Staar Reading Series, PlayPenn Conference, Ingram New Works Lab at Nashville Rep, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Berkley Rep Ground Floor Residency, Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission, Youngblood, The Princess Grace Award, Tofte Lake Residency, NYTW Fellowship, National Playwright’s Conference at The O’Neill, TerraNova Groundbreakers, Mabou Mine Resident Artist Program.
RECENT: The Unofficial Race Time of A. Pineda recently had a reading in April at New York Theater Workshop starring Dion Graham of HBO’s The Wire. In May, Black Escalade had readings at The Lark and with New Georges starring Vella Lovell of the CW’s Crazy Ex Girlfriend.
CURRENT: Caitlin is currently writing a play called My Friend Tom about her best friend Tom, the son of poet Mark Strand and is writing a television pilot about the internet and being dumped by guys.
UPCOMING: This fall, Joley will have its second roundtable reading at The Lark. Two Men Missing In The Hudson River will have a workshop this August as a part of her New Georges Audrey Residency.
Caitlin is an actress and chanteuse. She frequently portrays roles she writes for the stage including Ashley in Nesting and Daughter in I LOVE DEAD THINGS.
In addition to performing in her own work, Caitlin has participated in readings, plays, and concerts at: St. Ann's Warehouse, EST, SoHo Rep, Studio 42, Dixon Place, Labyrinth Theater Company, Symphony Space, The Lyric Opera House, Incubator Arts, Deitch Projects, The Hiro Ballroom, Ars Nova, La MaMa etc and Lucielle's at BB Kings. She has collaborated with: Art Party, The Citizens Band, Bluemouth Inc., The Wooster Group, and Adam Rapp. In 2011 Caitlin sang alongside Karen O and The Yeah Yeah Yeah's in "Stop The Virgen's" at St. Ann's Warehouse.
Upcoming: Caitlin will be playing JonBenet Ramsey in her solo show, In The Basement of My Heart. She is currently developing the piece with director Mary Birnbaum.
